Exhibitions
The Charity frequently organises exhibitions on a number of different subjects at Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals. We accept proposals from external organisations and individuals, along with projects originating within the hospitals. We are happy to consider any collaborative ideas.
“Design and Gerontology” on Tour
Atrium 2, Guy’s Hospital
3 August-3 September 2010
In August 2010, Atrium 2 in Guy’s Hospital will host an exhibition of work produced for a project, “Design and Gerontology”. The project focused on the science of ageing, to inspire young people to design an exciting clothing collection.
Working with fashion designers and scientists who specialise in the ageing process, students studied the changes to our mind and body as we age. The resulting designs not only demonstrate an understanding of our physical and functional changes, but also form an innovative fashion collection.
The clothes were designed by students from Pimlico Academy, Westminster, Quintin Kynaston School, Westminster and The Petchey Academy, Hackney.
The project was produced by ActionDog, a company that has engaged thousands of young people in creative activities, producing projects that have had a sustainable and positive impact on the participants’ development. “Design and Gerontology” was funded by the Wellcome Trust.
Photographing Hope
Atrium 2, Guy’s Hospital
8 June-23 July 2010
An eye-catching exhibition of photographs depicting images of hope was displayed in Guy’s Hospital from 8 June until 23 July 2010. The photographs were taken by members of the South West Community Mental Health Team, part of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. ‘Photographing Hope’ was funded by the Charity as a way of increasing feelings of hope and levels of wellbeing in individuals with long term mental health problems.
Using just a digital camera and their imaginations, the service users tried to define and capture their own meaning of the word hope by taking a series of inspiring photographs. For five months, they attended workshops in which they shared ideas and then brought together photographs they had taken themselves.
