Cancer fundraising and donations
CANHELPCANHELP provides support that helps Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust stay at the forefront of research and treatment in the fight against cancer, one of the biggest causes of death in the UK. It helps to fund specific radiotherapy and chemotherapy services; helps to improve amenities on wards; helps to buy equipment; supports palliative care and funds research and education.
Cancer Services at Guy's and At Thomas' treats over 4,000 new patients each year from across the South East and further afield.
Donations to the CANHELP fund have provided two I View systems worth £60,000 each, which increase the accuracy of radiotherapy.
A grant of more than £100,000 from CANHELP is supporting research into the use of intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) which helps to deliver radiation more precisely to the patient's tumour. This mean that there's less risk of damaging healthy tissue around the tumour and early trials have demonstrated the possibility of reduced side-effects and improved survival.
Your donation to CANHELP will improve services in the following ways:
- £10 will fund a comprehensive information pack for a patient;
- £500 will buy a syringe pump to enable patients to self-administer pain relief drugs increasing their independence;
- £1,500 will purchase a motorised reclining chemotherapy chair designed for comfort and mobility.
