Evelina Appeal: Fulham derby day collection

Evelina logo

20 volunteers generously gave their time to raise £1,204.38 for The Evelina Children’s Hospital on Saturday 15th November for the derby game between Fulham and Tottenham. After braving the cold the volunteers were rewarded with a thrilling match where goals from Simon Davies and Andy Johnson gave Fulham the 2-1 win against Harry Redknapp’s resurgent Hotspurs.

The money raised will go towards the purchase of a Tandem Mass Spectrometer machine, which can diagnose more than 20 metabolic disorders within one hour on a single small blood sample (this currently takes up to 3 days). It is more accurate and sensitive than the older systems and will check for more disorders than currently possible.

Metabolic disorders are the commonest cause of newborn deaths in the developed world and contribute to half of hospital admissions in the 0-16 year age group. Approx 13,000 babies are born with congenital conditions per year in the UK.

Thanks to Fulham FC, The Ava Clarke Foundation, The Al-Fayed family and all of our fantastic volunteers.
