A 469 foot drop down on one knee

When Trevor Buckland decided to propose to Sam Moody he wanted to do it right.

He took his best suit, a box of Milk Tray, a very long rope and a crash helmet and abseiled 469 feet down Guy's Hospital Tower in aid of The Evelina Children's Hospital Appeal to land on one knee and pop the question.

Trevor said: "I had already decided to take part in the abseil, despite never having done one before. Our friends Colin and Jo Deville's baby Ronnie was rushed to the Evelina for major bowel surgery earlier in the year and I wanted to say thank you for all the brilliant care and support they have received from the surgeons and nurses. I checked out the website to see how I could get involved and found myself signed up to dangle off the world's tallest hospital building. I am absolutely terrified of heights, but once I'd visited Ronnie and he'd given me a high five, there was no way I could back out. The abseil already felt special, but I wanted to do something spectacular to let Sam know how much she means to me."

Sam was understandably surprised: "I knew we'd fallen in love, but this is ridiculous! I was so pleased to have Trevor back on the ground after his dare devil descent that I had to say yes. I'm very proud of him for taking on the challenge, supporting our friends and giving me an engagement that I'll never forget.

So far Trevor has raised £558, contributing to the £14,700 total raised by him and the other 31 brave souls who went over the edge for the Appeal.

There are two abseil dates coming up in 2008 - Saturday 7th June and Saturday 19th July. Email the Fundraisig team to register your interest.
