Gift Aid

The Gift Aid scheme allows Guy's and St Thomas' Charity to increase the value of your gift by almost a third without any cost to you.

From April 2000, if you are a UK taxpayer, any donation made to us on which tax has been paid comes under the Gift Aid scheme. For example, basic rate tax is currently 22 per cent, so a gift of £78 to the Charity would be increased through Gift Aid to £100.

This means that no matter how much tax you pay – whether on income, savings or investments – as long as you have paid enough to cover the amount deducted from your donations, we can claim it back. The new scheme also applies to anyone who pays UK tax, wherever they are resident.

To make any or all of your donations to the Charity qualify, all you need to do is check that the details below apply to you and tick the Gift Aid Declaration box when you make your donation. We will then claim back the tax you have paid on any donation covered by the Declaration.

If you would like further details of the Gift Aid scheme, please contact the Fundraising Team on Tel: (020) 7188 7744 , or contact the Inland Revenue direct on 0151 472 6036/6037 if you are in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, on 0131 551 8127 if you are in Scotland, or check their website. (Please note that these changes only affect individuals; company donations no longer come under the Gift Aid scheme.

In detail

You can make a Gift Aid Declaration in respect of one or all donations made to the Charity since 6 April 2000, and the Declaration can last indefinitely.

The Declaration will be effective as long as you pay UK income and/or capital gains tax equal to or greater than the tax paid on your donation.

The Charity will claim back tax at the basic rate, so if you are a higher rate taxpayer you can claim further tax relief on your Self-Assessment form.

You can cancel the Declaration at any time in the future, and should let the Charity know if you stop paying tax. Any gifts on or after the specified date of cancellation will not be included for tax reclaim.

Similarly, you should let us know of any changes of name or address that may affect the Inland Revenue claim.
