Development of an in vivo model of arterial repair to investigate anti-inflammatory and stem cell mobilising therapy

Location: King's College London
Grantholder: Professor Phil Chowienczyk, Professor of Cardiovascular Clinical Pharmacology, King's College London
Award: 241,000
Start date: 01/04/2008

Project intentions: Arteries are kept healthy by a process of continual repair by stem cells released from bone marrow, and arterial disease probably results from a combination of injury to arteries (through factors such as smoking, high cholesterol and high blood pressure) and failure of the repair mechanism. Funding will help the team determine how the repair process can be helped in the hope of preventing arterial disease and improving the healing of damaged arteries.
