Healthcare associated infections

Location: Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust / King's College London
Award: £750,000
Award date: May 2008

Project intentions: An allocation of £750,000 over three years will assist Guy’s and St Thomas’ and its associated academic partner, King’s College London to address the prevalence of hospital acquired infections - the virulence of which has begun to be a risk to younger healthier patients. Through management of threats and surveillance of threats the Trust has reduced the number of cases and is recognised as a centre of excellence in infection control practice. This work will support translational research into the field which will link with external research groups whilst directly benefiting local patients. The funding will support the refurbishment of laboratory and office space for a new Centre of Excellence which (with funding from other sources) will accommodate a number of new research posts.
