Translational Research Pilot Scheme: a Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity/MRC/KCL investment programme
In 2006 the Charity contributed £170,000 towards a £700,000 total to pilot the effectiveness of a local Research Translator. The scheme aims, over three years, to test the idea that skilled personnel (Research Translators) with appropriate background in pharmaceuticals and medicine can, with support, facilitate translation of projects from the laboratory towards proof of concept clinical studies.
The balance of the funding has been provided by the Medical Research Council and King’s College London. The Charity’s funding is being used to co-fund the Translator post and meet the cost of an evaluation. The MRC’s funding is being used to co-fund the Translator and the costs of a translational investment programme to support the development of translatable projects.
