Evelina Children's Fund

Charitable funding for children's services at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Evelina London Children’s Hospital is the UK’s leading hospital for paediatric heart services, and a specialist centre for kidney transplants and dialysis, cleft lip surgery, metabolic conditions, allergy and neurology. Using donations for the hospital and children’s services, we help provide the best possible care for young patients and their families.

Who can apply for funding from the Evelina Children’s Fund?

The Evelina Children’s Fund’s Committee oversees a special funding programme that is open only to Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust departments providing care to children.

We also welcome applications from community-based services which are part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Community services applicants must demonstrate that the investment will benefit a significant number of children in Lambeth and Southwark.

This funding scheme is resourced through donations, and all grant holders will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to fundraising, without which grants would not be possible.

What can the Evelina Children’s Funds support?

We welcome applications for funding for equipment, furnishings, refurbishment and other items that directly support children's care, which cannot be funded from other sources.

Items or projects must directly support children’s care through enhancing and improving facilities and services. Priority is given to applications for purchase of equipment.

Our Evelina Children’s Fund is for projects or items that cannot be funded by the NHS or other sources. Before applying, you should try to secure funds from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and other sources. You will need to explain what you have done towards this in your application.

What the Evelina Children’s Fund cannot fund

To ensure our funds have the greatest impact on improving care for children, there are some exclusions to what we can support.

The Evelina Children’s Fund cannot support:

  • applications to support individual, named patients
  • salaries or the costs of pump-priming new services
  • recurrent and on-going maintenance costs for equipment that has already been purchased (projects and equipment must be self-sustaining once an initial grant has been given)
  • equipment or furnishings that do not directly support children’s care (for example items to improve staff welfare)
  • projects or activities which directly or indirectly benefit commercial companies providing services to the hospital, such as GSTS, the public/private partnership for Trust pathology services
  • applications for activities or equipment that have already been completed
  • research costs.

What size of grants does the Evelina Children’s Fund provide?

The minimum award from our Evelina Children’s Fund is £500. There is no upper limit, although bear in mind that the Committee has only limited funds and large applications may be deferred to allow new funding to be raised.

If you want to apply to the Evelina Children’s Fund, please note that the deadlines are: 12 November 2018, 11 March 2019, 7 August 2019 and 11 November 2019.
