We have opened a co-working space to help grow new digital solutions in health.
Through Health Foundry we aim to improve the health and wellbeing of people by helping digital health start-ups connect with the NHS and others. Offering a collaborative space, facilitating networks and other support, Health Foundry helps entrepreneurs to create and mainstream digital solutions for health and care challenges – from apps that promote healthy habits to medical tests that are a click away.
The space, located opposite St Thomas’ Hospital, is the first of its kind in the area and it is the latest move in our work in digital health.
Over the past few years, we have supported digital entrepreneurs through grants and other investments, including the online local sexual health service SH:24 and OpenPlay, a website and app which connects people with sports in their area.
“Digital technology has the potential to transform health and healthcare. However people are not yet benefitting from it as much as they are in other areas of their lives, including shopping, transport or leisure. Through Health Foundry, we want to provide the right conditions for those with bright ideas to meet the needs of today’s people and health professionals, and to bring the NHS into the 21st Century”, says our Head of Health Investment, Michael Wright.
The space is open to start-ups in London and those looking to relocate to the capital. Built on the ground floor of Canterbury House, in what used to be a children’s nursery, Health Foundry is designed and managed by Architecture00. It provides 350 sq m of open workspace for hot-desking and rooms for meetings and events.
We are working closely with the recently established DigitalHealth.London, its Accelerator programme – also aimed at nurturing digital health start-ups – and others to enhance the Health Foundry's offer and provide stronger support for entrepreneurs.
