Who we are

We're an independent, urban health foundation.

We work with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and others to improve health in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.

Why we're here

For over 500 years we’ve been based in the London boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. We focus on tackling complex health issues that are prevalent locally but also relevant to other urban areas across the UK and internationally.

How we do it:

  • Working in partnership – from grassroots organisations to public sector bodies and commercial businesses, we work with a range of partners to tackle major health challenges in urban areas. We take a place-based approach by supporting and layering up different projects and ideas at varying scales. We co-produce projects, bring in experts, and provide financial, strategic and practical support to learn what works, test solutions and share knowledge.
  • Supporting Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust to provide exceptional care – we fundraise to help ensure staff are supported to be the very best, and that patients have a world-class experience.

Our theory of change: creating greater, lasting impact

Over the course of our five year strategy through to 2022, we're focusing on:

  • Tackling complex health challenges in Lambeth and Southwark, and learning about improving health in urban areas
To do this, we are concentrating our work on two programmes; looking at childhood obesity and multiple long-term conditions. We want to test and show how scaling up different projects can help to address these complex issues from many angles. By taking a long-term view, we make sure projects get the space and resource to create a real impact.

  • Improving staff welfare and patient experience in Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust through our unique position as the Trust’s charity
We will strengthen our role as the fundraising charity for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. By adopting a new approach to how we collect and use fundraised income, we will support our hospitals and community sites to deliver world-class care.
